Are threaded rods always this hard to work with?

I bought some threaded rods from home depot to make a new workbench. I’m new to woodworking. The plans that I got use a threaded rod with nuts and washers as the jointing structure, along with dowels.

I am having so much trouble with getting the bolts on my threaded rods. A few go straight on. Others, despite taking all care and filing off burrs when cutting the rod to size, just refuse to go on. I just started having trouble with one that I didn’t even cut – it was a factory end that I was trying to get the damn nut on and it just won’t go.

Are these things always like this?
Well, I tried that. I made sure the nuts went on on both ends. I had to remove the nuts to put the rod through the woods to joint them. And then they wouldn’t fit back on…

I agree with jason, but if you can’t get the nut on one end start it from the other end and thread it all the way back off the other end. Hope this Helps
