How would I make the slot for a skeleton keyhole in a block of wood?
I have a block of wood that I’m trying to make a key hole in for a skeleton key. This is for a woodworking project. I have drilled a hole for the “barrel” of the key but i need to carve a slot for the part of the key that hangs down. The key goes about an inch and a half into the block of wood so I need to make the slot go that deep.
Here’s a link to a picture of what the key looks like. http://www.amazon.com/Skeleton-Key-Blank-Antique-Brass/dp/B00074VBDE
Use a drill bit the width of the hole you want to make. set up the drill press. Set depth and clamp wood guides on either side of your block drill for slot (multiple holes if needed), you should be able to slide your block a little to clean up slot. Go slow and let the drill bit do the work

And if you’re like me, you’ve probably spent hundreds of hard-earned dollars on wood plans and projects that turned out to be disappointing (or maybe even disastrous!). Maybe you’ve halted projects in mid-stream because of frustration or from running out of ideas. To read more, please click here:Woodworking4Home
