Chicken Coops Blueprints – Why Pay, Why Not Free?

There are plenty of chicken coops blueprints on the web, but how do you know that any of them will be up to scratch? Come to think of it, why should you shell out at all if you can find free designs for chicken coops that you can download for nothing?

With your permission I’m going to answer those two questions in the opposite order. I’ll start with free chicken coop plans.

Nobody is saying that you won’t find some acceptable ones – and perhaps I’m being overly suspicious – but why are they free? Regularly it’s what my father used to term “a sprat to catch a mackerel” – something small to get you to buy something bigger. I’m OK with that – who says you have to pay for the bigger, full set of chicken coop plans, right? But if the free ones are a decent quality, why would you need the “larger” version?

Like I said, maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m just an old cynic and some folks are just offering free hen house plans out of the goodness of their hearts. If you are happy with them and they’re of good quality, go for it!

What if you haven’t been successful though, and you’re trying to find chicken coops blueprints that you’re going to have to pay for. Most professionally drawn ones cost between $20 and $30. Not horribly pricey, but you still want to know that you’re getting value.

I would ask myself what the supplier’s website look like. It doesn’t have to look like it was created by some giant multi-national business, but if looks reasonably good and doesn’t have faults, they obviously pay attention to detail. If they don’t spend time on their own website, how will you know they spend time on their coop plans?

Moving on, is there any hint of who created the plans. If they were made by an architect, for example, you would imagine they’ve been done right. Ditto if it’s a designer who has been working in a chicken business for a long time – they should know what they are developing.

Additionally, you want to consider options. Do the chicken coop plans provide one size or style, or could you make several different ones. That way, if one doesn’t quite work out for you when you get to look at it in detail, you can just choose another – without having to spend out again.

You might want to see if there are comments from satisfied customers, whether the chicken coop plans are in a format you can use (PDF is a good choice) and finally, some people will give a money back guarantee. That should certainly make you feel happier about your choice.

When you look at chicken coop prices it makes sense to put together your own. There are plans around that make this relatively quick and simple, even if you have minimal woodwork experience. Finding the best chicken coops blueprints is just a matter of taking enough time to look at what’s out there and applying a bit of common sense. Don’t worry, you’ll quickly have those delightful hens nice and settled in – and delivering fresh eggs for you every day.
