Woodworking finish applying help?

I have a piece of wood that is oak on the outside and black walnut on the inside that i made. How would i apply the finish? Would i use the same kind of finish for both kinds of wood or would i use two different types of finish and mask one off?

Since this is made using 2 different species of wood and you refer to the “Finish” I assume you are going to stain this rather then just a clear coat (natural) Let’s say you want to stain the project, with 2 different pieces of wood these will take the stain differently, even if you use the same stain out of the same can

Clear coat, you can just finish, but before you do that, I wound recommend you finish some scarp wood of each type (Oak & Walnut) to see if you’ll be happy with how those will finish.

Oak can finish a little red or orange & the walnut can be light in color to dark brown to light black in color

one thing with the oak it has a attendance to be pours which will require you to put more coats in the oak in a build-up fashion
if you need some more information, IM me and I will see if I can help you out

Since you found this site, you must enjoy working with wood. And if you’re like me, you’ve probably spent hundreds of hard-earned dollars on wood plans and projects that turned out to be disappointing (or maybe even disastrous!). Maybe you’ve halted projects in mid-stream because of frustration or from running out of ideas. To read more, please click here:Woodworking4Home
