using sketchup woodworking

What do you think of my King Sized Headboard?
I really need a headboard because my window keeps falling out, and I can’t find one for the price I want to pay.

I designed this model using Google SketchUp. It consists mainly of 2×12 planks and 0.75″ plywood.
My main question is what type of hardware should I use to fasten the pieces? Nails or Screws (and what type and what size)? I don’t know really know a lot about woodworking so feel free to critique it thoroughly.
Well plywood because it is cheaper, and also because I don’t really know what I’m doing, but I look at all of the furniture around me and the big panels are plywood?
What else would you recommend instead of 0.75″ plywood?
I don’t want the shelves to weigh too much because they are going to have hinges for storage.
My wife is going to pick out whatever stain or varnish she wants. She hasn’t decided yet.
The design is fine. Why plywood and what are you going to cover it with. Use screws, wood screws. If the wood is 2 ‘ thick and going into another then use a 21/2 in screw.
Don’t use nails, they can work out of the wood and the finish would look back over time. Get screws to look close to the color of the wood. Are you going to stain and varnish or just apply clear varnish for natural look or paint? Sorry but I don’t like the idea of plywood.==

Since you found this site, you must enjoy working with wood. And if you’re like me, you’ve probably spent hundreds of hard-earned dollars on wood plans and projects that turned out to be disappointing (or maybe even disastrous!). Maybe you’ve halted projects in mid-stream because of frustration or from running out of ideas. To read more, please click here:Woodworking4Home
